Don’t sweat the dog days of summer. Not when the Dawg Days are fast approaching.
The Browns released their training camp schedule Tuesday, which features 15 practices open to the public at no charge beginning Thursday, July 26.
And now that coach Hue Jackson has “cleansed” the organization of its winless season of a year ago and its 1-31 record over the last two with his leap into Lake Erie, maybe the Browns will take a leap forward with the product they put on the field.
Obviously, there are new players to check out, including quarterback and No. 1 NFL Draft pick Baker Mayfield, who will definitely not be battling new quarterback Tyrod Taylor for playing time, or so Jackson says, and No. 4 overall Denzel Ward, a cornerback out of Ohio State and Nordonia High School.
There will also be one of the league’s top wide receivers in Jarvis Landry, acquired in a trade with the Dolphins, as well as another former Buckeye, running back Carlos Hyde, who was signed as a free agent.
One player who won’t be at camp for the first time in more than a decade is Joe Thomas, the team’s rock at left tackle for the past 11 seasons who retired after injuries finally got the better of him. Finding his replacement will be one of the biggest stories of camp.
Something else missing this year will be the Orange & Brown Scrimmage, which will not be held due to additional events at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Fans can get priority access by registering for tickets online and downloading the Browns mobile app. Once registered, fans will receive their tickets through the app to enter practice. While this is the preferred way to get tickets, the Browns will also admit fans on a walk-up basis depending on space. There will be no printed tickets for camp, however.
Season ticket holders can register for practices today through Friday, when tickets become available to the public at 10 a.m.
