About John Gladden John Gladden was born in 1966 and grew up in Ohio’s Morrow County. He studied English and journalism at Malone College in Canton, where he met his wife, Melanie. They live in an 1832 farm house in Westfield Township in Medina County, with their children Matthew and Emily and a reliable, rusty-gray tractor named Old Fergie.

Since joining The Medina Gazette in 1990, Gladden’s writing has received the honor of being cut out and taped to refrigerator doors everywhere. His columns and feature stories have won awards from the Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. More importantly, his maple syrup once earned the blue ribbon for three years running at the Medina County Fair.
