Arthur D. Austin

Arthur D. Austin, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018. He was born December 2, 1932 to the late George Milnes Austin Sr. and Mabel (nee Eichner) Austin in Waynesboro, Virginia.

He graduated from Waynesboro High School and attended Fishburne Military School for one year. He later graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree with Distinction.

After working in New York City for two years, his path then led to New Orleans, Louisiana where he attended Tulane University School of Law and obtained a Juris Doctor degree. His education at UVA was interrupted when he joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic in the Korean Conflict. He was badly injured on Pork Chop Hill and received a Bronze Star with Valor and a Purple Heart for his service.

Arthur was a professor of law at Case Western Reserve School of Law for 43 years, retiring in 2011 as the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Jurisprudence. Last but not least, he was the "commissioner" of the Phlegm Snopes basketball tournament at CWRU law school.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Irene; son, Brian; sister-in-law, Marcella Austin; brother-in-law, C.P. Wittenberg (Dorothy); niece, Barbara Hasenauer (Matthias); great-niece, JoJo Hasenauer and relatives in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Arthur was preceded in death by his brother, George Milnes Austin, Jr.

Celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2 to 4 P.M. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road Brunswick.
