Mark H. Shields, 56, of Strongsville, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018. Mark was born April 3, 1961 in Danville, Illinois, to the late Clifford and Mary (nee Vogt) Shields. He had resided in Hinckley since 1991 prior to moving to Strongsville in 2014.
Mark followed the footsteps of his grandfather as a grocer after graduating from the University of Illinois. He had worked at the former Super K Mart Center of Medina in its heyday as the nation's third largest grocery store. For the past 16 years he had been a key employee of The Mustard Seed Market in Montrose and Solon.
Mark was an enthusiastic movie buff, cat fancier and classic video arcade master who holds the world's highest score in "Rally-X". Mark loved to travel with the children, particularly to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Boston and San Francisco. He was a supporter of his children's equestrian pursuits with the Bath Pony Club. He was also an avid fan of Medina Buckeye athletics, where freshman Katie wrestles and senior August was Cross Country MVP this season.
Mark will be greatly missed by his children, Lauren Vogt-Shields, August Vogt-Shields, Katie Vogt-Shields and Arthur Vogt-Pimm; mother of his children, Margaret Vogt Pimm (Tony); brothers, John, Tom and Jim Shields; nephew, Ryan Shields; niece, Kara Shields Billings and his adoring cats, Adrian and Rocksanne.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Road, Valley City. Calling hours are Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M., at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City.
