Mary T. Johnson of Seville, was called to the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2017, where she joined her husband of 62 years, James Johnson, her parents, Steven and Mary (Gyurcsek) Bartok, her daughter, Stephanie Ley, her son-in-law, Willard Samkow and her grandson, Stephen Zwick.
Mary was born February 8, 1934 in Akron and grew up on Colon Dr. While attending Copley High School, she excelled in home economics, band and being a part of the majorette squad. After graduation, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy. Although she had her hands full raising three daughters and taking care of their home, Mary decided to join the working force and became a member of the Flexigrip Rubber Company. Later in life, she became a prep chef for the restaurant, Michael's, in Montville Township. It was there she was able to share her love of cooking.
After retirement, Mary enjoyed living in Seville, wintering in Florida and spending time in the garden, admiring her beautiful flowers. As an avid Catholic, she was involved in the St. Francis Xavier adult and funeral choir for 12 years, where she made lifelong friends. Mary loved spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was sure not to miss many of their sporting events.
Mary was an artistic woman who loved listening to classical music and enjoyed painting. Her Cleveland Cavaliers kept her on the edge of her seat and she was thrilled when they won the championship in 2016. The world is a little less bright without the sight of her smile and the sound of her laughter.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Samkow and Jenifer (Scott) Markley; her grandchildren, Matthew (Jacqueline) Markley and Jenna (Brandon) Mowrer; her great-granddaughters, Aston and Piper Markley and Kaya Kmet; her sister, Shirley Larson and her nieces and nephews.
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever". Psalm 73:26.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier in Medina on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 9:30 A.M. Father Tom Kowatch will be the presider. Our beloved Mary will be interred at the Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
