MEDINA — A longtime physician in Medina County will become president of Medina Hospital on Sept. 1.
On Friday, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation announced Thomas Tulisiak, who recently served as medical director of the Clinic’s Brunswick Family Health Center, will replace President Rob Stall, who will take over as chief of operations for the Clinic’s regional hospitals.
“It is a great honor to lead Medina Hospital,” Tulisiak said in a statement. “I have always been committed to this community and to making the hospital the best it can be in terms of quality, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction. Our focus will be to continue to provide the highest quality health care to Medina County residents.”
Tulisiak also served as vice president of medical operations at Medina Hospital.
Tulisiak, a 28-year employee of Medina Hospital, has served as chairman of the Department of Medicine, chairman of the Utilization Review Committee and Ethics Committee and as a member of the Quality Advisory Panel and Credentials Committee.
“Tom’s outstanding leadership skills and knowledge of Medina County made him the ideal choice,” David Bronson, president of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals, said in a statement. “He will lead a team that is committed to providing world-class health care to Medina County residents. We thank Rob for his dedication to Medina Hospital and his willingness to accept additional responsibilities.”
Tulisiak said one of the biggest challenges the health care system faces is to develop a “medical home” where a variety of services can be performed in order to keep patients from leaving the county.
“The appropriate care, appropriate place and appropriate time, all that is possible at Medina Hospital,” he said Friday.
He added he plans to expand the cardiovascular unit at Medina Hospital and noted the hospital is able to handle high-risk pregnancies thanks to bringing in Dr. Abdelaziz Saleh, who will work in maternal fetal medicine.
Tulisiak has been a member of the Clinic since 1997 and is a clinical assistant professor of family medicine for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University and his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio — Toledo.
He has been a Medina resident for 25 years.
Medina Hospital, at 1000 E. Washington St., became affiliated with the Clinic in August 2009.
