MEDINA — Up-and-coming country singer Kane Brown has been booked as the main entertainment at this year’s Medina County Fair.
The opening act will be Smithfield.
“He’s popular among the young ladies on the country music scene,” Fair Board President Mike Gall said of Brown.
He said the fair board was thrilled with the concert from last year, which amassed about 4,000 country music fans.
“We had a good mix with Brothers Osborne, which was popular with the younger crowd, and Gary Allan, who was popular with the middle-age crowd,” Gall said. He said Brown is coming on as an artist.
“We want to deliver an act that people enjoy and get the masses to attend,” Gall said. “Newer country acts sell tickets and are who people want to see.”
Brown, 24, is scheduled to play at the Clearfield (Pa.) County Fair the day before his 8 p.m. Aug. 2 concert in Medina County.
In June 2015, he released his first EP, “Closer,” which featured the single “Used to Love You Sober.”
Brown signed with RCA Nashville in early 2016, which led to his first full-length album, “Kane Brown,” in December 2016. It has since gone platinum.
The single, “What Ifs” was released from that album and reached No. 1 on the country charts.
An expanded deluxe edition of his album was released in October, which included four new tracks, including “Heaven,” which also climbed to No. 1.
Brown was raised in northwest Georgia and Chattanooga, Tenn.
He got engaged to fellow singer Katelyn Jae in April 2017.
Tickets are $30 for the Brown-Smithfield concert, with a
$4 service charge, and go on sale at 9 a.m. May 19 at the fair office, 720 W. Smith Road, or www.medina-fair.com, and 10 a.m. for phone orders, (330) 723-9633.
