MEDINA — A Claggett Middle School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making a threat, according to a release from Principal Paul Worsencroft to families at the school.

The student was sent to the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center.

It was the third Medina student, and second from Claggett, arrested in the last two weeks for allegedly making threats.

Worsencroft said in the release a Claggett student wrote a threatening note that was found by a staff member in a classroom where the student was working. The student was detained and arrested by Medina police.

Worsencroft said he doesn’t have any reason to believe the threat to be credible.

Superintendent Aaron Sable sent out a message to families in the school district.

“I encourage you to talk to your children about appropriate messaging through social media, texting, emailing and through conversation at school,” he said.

“I am proud of our staff and students’ commitment to keeping our hive safe. Reported potential threats will be handled diligently and swiftly.”

Worsencroft said in the release that he wanted to thank Claggett staff members, building administration and police for their prompt response to the situation.

He directed parents to Claggett’s website, which is accessible through medinabees.org. At the top of the page is tab for resources for parents. If parents wish to talk to their students about appropriate ways to express anger and frustration, there is a section on Talking to Your Child about Violence.

Parents, staff or students can report threats anonymously to the Safe School Hotline at (800) 418-6423, ext. 359.

Claggett is located at 420 E. Union St.

Tuesday’s alleged threat follows on the heels of multiple incidents at Medina County schools.

Tyler Hrouda, 18, was charged with making false reports, a first-degree misdemeanor, for an alleged threat to Brunswick High School.

A Buckeye Junior High School student was arrested Feb. 27 after reportedly making a threat that targeted another student. Threats also were made at A.I. Root and Claggett middle schools in Medina on Feb. 22, and a student brought a pellet gun to Highland High School on Feb. 23. The latter three were arrested on inducing panic charges and taken to the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center.
