MEDINA - A familiar face will begin working year-round at the Medina County Fair Board office.

Amanda Shenberger

Amanda Shenberger, of Ashland County, was hired Wednesday as administrative assistant, the board announced Thursday.

She has been assisting fair board President Mike Gall in the office for the past 13 summers.

Shenberger, 30, will work on daily operations at the office, including organizing the fair and non-fair-related events, that used to be taken care of by the late Marilyn R. "Lyn" Maxwell, who served as fair board secretary for 27 years and died in December.

"We're really excited to have her and very happy she accepted the position," Gall said.

"She brings 13 years of fair experience with her and she's helped out with every aspect of getting the fair together."

He noted that Shenberger is not an elected official, as the board formed the administrative assistant position to fulfill the duties within the fair board office.

He said board member Beverly Fry was recently appointed as secretary of the board.

Shenberger will work full-time in the summer months - June to September - and part-time for the remaining nine months of the year. Her hourly pay rate was not disclosed.

Gall said Shenberger has extended her help during her spare time, nights and weekends the past few months since Maxwell's death.

"She has performed beyond any expectation that I would've had," Gall said. "Hopefully, we can return to some normalcy in the office at this point."

Shenberger works as a physical education teacher at St. Edward School in Ashland.

She has a bachelor's in physical education and teaching and a master's in special education, both from Ashland University.

"She will continue to teach physical education on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school year," Gall said.
