Bro, a 2-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback that lives with his family in Wadsworth, came up a winner Monday at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club’s All Breed Dog Show in New York.
The club’s website, westminsterkennelclub.org, posted honors that showed Bro was named Best of Opposite Sex, which is the best dog that is the opposite sex to the Best of Breed winner. The club also posted a video of the judging.
Bro’s handler is 10-year-old Emily Holmes, a fifth-grader at Central Intermediate School.
Bro got his name from the television show “How I Met Your Mother.” His call name is “Bro Code.”
Emily has been competing in dog shows for a year and a half with Bro. The two go to training class each week.
Last year, Emily’s mother, Teresa West-Holmes, said she and Bro were in the ring at Westminster while Emily watched as a spectator.
Bro earned his American Kennel Club championship that year, which she said is “a big goal to reach.”
This year, Bro was back at the show as a grand champion. At home, Bro is one of five Rhodesian Ridgebacks, including his mother, sister and two unrelated dogs.
A news release from the Westminster show said Emily and Bro have trained the past year and a half in the American Kennel Club’s Junior Showmanship and Best of Breed categories.
