Spencer woman killed, husband hurt in Lorain County motorcycle crash (UPDATED)

A Spencer resident died Sunday night following a motorcycle crash in Lorain County, authorities said.

William Hill, 74, of Spencer, was traveling south on state Route 301 in Penfield Township on a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his wife, Eleanor, also 74, as a passenger.

At about 6:45 p.m., the Harley’s rear tire apparently malfunctioned, causing the motorcycle to travel off the right side of the road, striking a ditch and ejecting William and Eleanor Hill, according to the Elyria post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Eleanor Hill was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where she died of her injuries, the patrol said.

William Hill was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland to be treated for his injuries.

On Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said Hill was not listed in the system.

The patrol, which said the crash remains under investigation, was assisted Sunday night by the Wellington Fire Department, South Lorain County EMS, Metro Life Flight, and Don’s Auto and Truck Service.
