Clarence W. Klooz

Clarence W. Klooz, 84, of Medina, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, in Medina.

He was born March 1, 1924, in Valley City to Harley and Julia Klooz. Clarence was a lifelong resident of Medina County. He and his wife spent winters in Sebring, Fla., for 30 years. He enjoyed working on the family farm in Valley City. Clarence was a lieutenant for the Medina Police Department for 27 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He started Klooz Septic Service in 1958 and ran it until 1978, when his son took over the family business. Clarence lastly retired as a security guard with Medina County. He was quite a handyman, having built his first home in Medina, where he raised his family. Clarence was a great collector and restorer of antique Fordson tractors from the 1920 to 1930 eras. He had a grand total of 45 tractors in his collection at one time.

He is survived by his wife, Rita, to whom he was married 61 years; children, Linda (Ralph) Greene of Akron, Nancy Klooz, Ph.D., of Parma Heights, Robert L. (fiancée Royale) of Medina and Lori (Bob) Reed of Hinckley Township; grandchildren, Krista Shaffer of Akron, Kate (Ryan) Pinkus of Doylestown, Bobby and Charlie Reed, both of Hinckley, and Rhiannon and Jesse Bitting, both of Medina; brother, William (Marguerite) Klooz of Berea; brother-in-law, Ronald (Rochelle) Burton of Muncie, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester and Gerald; sister, Dorothy Sampson; brother-in-law, Roger Burton; and sister-in-law, June Gest.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. The Rev. Thomas Schwartz will officiate.

Burial: Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City.

Visitation: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
