Wrong car hit with water balloon in Medina

MEDINA — Four men picked the wrong car to fling water balloons at early Friday morning.

Using a giant slingshot, Scott Mahon, 31, of 332 Lafayette Road; Ryan Keats, 18, of 599 S. Court St.; Lance Capiot, 19, of 7368 W. Law Road, Liverpool Township; and Bryan Tidell, 18, of 332 Lafayette Road; reportedly launched water balloons at several vehicles, including an unmarked car police driving in the 300 block of Lafayette Road at 3:43 a.m.

“Two officers (in the unmarked car) noticed four men sitting on the front porch steps at 322 Lafayette Road,” Lt. Bob Starcher said.

He said the officers drove back and forth along the road and after doing that a couple times, noticed only one man sitting on the steps. Shortly thereafter, the passenger side of the car was struck by a large water balloon.

“They immediately stopped the car, all four men ran … and another officer on foot in the area ordered them to the ground,” the lieutenant said. “At first they denied throwing the water balloon, even though the front of the 31-year-old’s shirt was completely wet.”

The four men were taken to the police department where they reportedly admitted to throwing the water balloons not only at the car the officers were in, but at several other vehicles, Starcher said.

All four were cited for disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor, and released.
