Montville resident accused of injuring newborn son

July 19th, 2008 · No Comments

By ALLISON WOOD Staff Writer

MEDINA — A Montville Township man accused of severely injuring his newborn son pleaded not guilty Friday to felonious assault and child endangering charges.

Kenneth Alex Grad, 38, of 4721 Lexington Ridge Drive, allegedly abused the infant several times between late May and mid-June, causing multiple bone fractures and other major injuries, court records show.

The boy, born in early May, was taken into protective custody by Medina County Job and Family Services in mid-June after doctors at Akron Children’s Hospital determined he had “numerous injuries of various ages, including numerous fractures to different bones,” records show.

The baby is now out of the hospital, said Montville Sgt. Terry Grice, who is investigating the case along with the county prosecutor’s office.

A 20-month-old girl also was taken from the home and does not appear to have been abused, he said.

Grad is charged with eight counts in all, including three counts of felonious assault and five counts of child endangering, all second- and third-degree felonies.

He was arrested after being indicted by a county grand jury Wednesday and remains in the Medina County Jail.

His bond was raised from $300,000 to $500,000 Friday by Common Pleas Judge James L. Kimbler.
