MEDINA — The teenager accused of shooting at two men at Union Square Apartments in April will be transferred to adult court.

William Deaver, who turned 18 on Friday, was arrested by Medina police on July 7 at the apartment complex, ending a months-long search.

Since he was still a juvenile when the shootings occurred, Juvenile/Probate Judge John J. Lohn conducted a hearing Wednesday to determine if Deaver’s case should be transferred. Ohio law states any 16- or 17-year-old juvenile charged with serious offenses such as attempted murder and felonious assault must be transferred to adult court if probable cause is determined, Lohn said in an interview.

Deaver is charged with two counts of attempted murder, first-degree felonies; two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies; having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony; and one count of receiving stolen property (firearm), a fourth-degree felony.

Deaver’s case will be presented during the next grand jury session, county Prosecutor Dean Holman said.

“There’s no excuse for shooting at someone, especially when there’s kids playing in the area,” he said.

Deaver’s bond was set at $500,000 during Wednesday’s hearing.

He was transferred to the Medina County Jail on his 18th birthday after spending four days at the Juvenile Detention Center.

On the afternoon of April 25, Deaver allegedly shot at two men at the apartment complex close to where multiple children were playing. No injuries were reported, police records show.

He fled the area and was believed to have spent time between Ashtabula and Cleveland before his arrest.

One of the alleged targets, Vincent Horn, 20, of Maple Heights, was arrested April 28 at a Union Square apartment and is charged with one count of possession of cocaine, a second-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, court records show.
