By BRAD BOURNIVAL Staff Writer John Furlong’s super summer of 2007 has apparently extended its way into 2008. The ’07 Medina graduate and current Ashland Eagle said hello to the Kenny Novak Tournament by winning the first two qualifiers for the event, which will take place July 29-30 at Walden Golf and Country Club. Furlong topped Canton’s Josh Clay on Saturday at Ellsworth Meadows G.C. by firing an even-par 71 with a 35 on the front side and 36 on the back to win the 16-19 age bracket. He returned Monday to Grantwood G.C. and lapped the field in an another impressive showing. The Medina resident pocketed a 36-37 on the 6,429-yard course to finish two over, five shots better than Fairlawn’s Tommy Arison. Furlong is now automatically qualified for the championship.  ACS OUTING: Coppertop G.C. will host an American Cancer Society outing July 5 at 2 p.m. The cost is $80 by June 30 and $90 afterward and includes 18 holes of golf, with a bagged lunch and dinner. A free practice round is included in the fee with prizes including a $10,000 giveaway and trip for two to Las Vegas.  PEDAL WITH PETE: The second annual Pedal-with-Pete golf outing to benefit persons with cerebral palsy will take place Aug. 2 at Fox Den G.C. in Stow. The cost will be $70 with a $5 optional skins. The fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch at the turn and a steak or chicken dinner.
