LAFAYETTE TWP. — A 13-year-old township boy died Friday night after he was struck crossing U.S. Route 42.

Cody Young was attempting to cross from the east side of Route 42 to the west when a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Matthew A. Shaum, 30, of Burbank, hit him at about 6:21 p.m. Shaum was driving north on Route 42, according to a release from the state highway patrol.

Young was transported by emergency medical helicopter to Lodi Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

Shaum and his passengers were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation, the release said.

Young’s obituary appears on A2.
