MEDINA — Lenders wishing to file foreclosure cases in common pleas court now will have to pay $400, a $100 increase, starting July 1.

The money generated is used in part to pay the salaries and benefits for the two magistrates in the court’s general division who handle foreclosures and other civil cases, Magistrate Jim Leaver said.

As of June 2, he said 450 foreclosure cases were filed with the clerk of courts’ office. In 2007, 856 cases were filed and 735 cases were filed in 2006, court records show.

The increase will make Medina’s fee comparable with other counties in the region, which can go as high as $500, Leaver said.

Common pleas Judges Christopher J. Collier and James L. Kimbler signed a court order on May 22 raising the fee.
