Memorial Day observances

The following Memorial Day events are going on around Medina County:

- Brunswick: The city’s Memorial Day program will be held at 10 a.m. today at Visintainer Middle School, 1459 Pearl Road. All organizations wishing to participate in the program and parade, which forms no later than 9:30, should call parade chairman Roger Mack at 330-225-7051.

- Chatham Township: The program begins at 10 a.m. today with a memorial service at the VFW hall, followed by a parade. Afterward, a community potluck picnic will be held behind the VFW. All are invited.

- Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Brunswick: The annual Memorial Day service at Eastlawn Memory Gardens, 2869 Grafton Road, Brunswick, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today. Join VFW Post 9520 at Eastlawn in honoring our veterans.

- Granger Township: Granger’s Memorial Day activities will begin at 9 a.m. with a parade from Highland Middle School to Granger Fairview Cemetery for a short program. Highland Superintendent Bruce Armstrong will be the speaker. Open houses will follow at the fire station and the library/historical society.

- Hinckley Township: The Memorial Day parade begins at 9 a.m. today at Our Lady of Grace Church and ends at the township hall.

- Lodi: American Legion Post 523 will host a parade lining up at 8:45 a.m. today from the American Legion hall through the center of town to Woodlawn Cemetery. A special guest speaker will offer words to our fallen veterans. The parade will march back to the center of town to raise the town flag.

- Medina: The city’s Memorial Day festivities begin at the Medina County Courthouse on Public Square. There will be a brief ceremony at 10 a.m. today with the parade stepping off at 10:10. The parade will proceed around Public Square and end at Spring Grove Cemetery for a ceremony at 11. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

- Seville: The parade begins at 1 p.m. today in front of First Baptist Church.

- Spencer: The Memorial Day parade lines up at 8 a.m. today at the old school and starts at 9, proceeding to the cemetery for a ceremony.

- Valley City: The parade lines up at 10:30 a.m. today at the township community center and steps off at 11, arriving at VFW Post 5563 for a ceremony of remembrance at the memorial. There will be a blood drive from 1 to 5 p.m. with hot dogs and refreshments provided by the post.

- Wadsworth: The city’s Memorial Day parade will form at 10:15 a.m. today in front of the American Legion and VFW hall, and step off at 10:30. It will end up at Woodlawn Cemetery for a ceremony. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at O.J. Work Auditorium at 11. For information, call Clarence Ruch at 330-334-1605.

- Westfield Center: The village’s parade begins at 11 a.m. today at Smucker Drive and ends at Friendsville Cemetery.
